Cumnock RFC P5s v Greenock

On Sunday 2nd December the Cumnock P5s travelled all the way to Greenock for the last game before the Christmas break. With six P5s and Thomas from P6 helping us out our seven dedicated players embarked on four 10-minute games which had parents, coaches and even the referee enthralled.

From the off it was clear that both Cumnock and Greenock were there to display some excellent rugby. Cumnock were playing well together as a team pushing their way up the pitch making excellent passes. Even though their defence needed tightening up, in attack they were pushing against Greenock’s defensive line. Ellie’s performance shone; today was her third game and she was passing, tackling and managed to score her first very well deserved try. In addition to this, a try from Jack and 2 from Aron, Tony scored an eye popping 4 tries with his knack of spotting space and weaving through defenders. The final score was Greenock 5, Cumnock 8.

Our second game demonstrated more of the same. Although the tackles were being made they were still sluggish. John had definitely woken up and was showing off his signature weaving and ducking. With John and Tony scoring 2 tries a piece, and another from Thomas the final score for the second game was 5 each.

The third game was played as seven a side so Cumnock were playing with no subs and were starting to tire. This was a very fast paced game and Cumnock’s defence struggled to contain Greenock attacks. Cumnock’s tackles were suffering and with gaps in their defence Greenock were managing to break through. This being said Cumnock made some good runs and with excellent support they were able to cross the try line. The final score was Greenock 7, Cumnock 3 with 2 tries from John and one from Jack.

In their final game of 2018, Cumnock seemed to find their second wind. Thomas, John and Tony were streaking up the pitch. Aron and Jack were getting in on the action gaining ground as well with Jack dodging defenders and Aron ploughing through them forging his course. Ellie continued to impress us, showcasing the skills she had been learning in training and standing her ground against some seasoned players and Aaron was gaining confidence and showing us some tackles. After a very thrilling and tense 10 minutes, Cumnock won their final game of 2018 Greenock 5, Cumnock 6.

Squad: Aaron, Aron, Ellie, Jack, John, Thomas, Tony
