Cumnock P5s vs Cambuslang and Hamilton

On a surprisingly sunny morning Cumnock and Hamilton received a very warm welcome to Cambuslang Rugby Club. With five players the P5s were short on numbers but were raring to go all the same. It was decided to play two seven-minute halves per game and to supplement Cumnock’s numbers from the other teams to allow 7 aside games.

Cumnock’s first game was against our host, Cambuslang. It was clear from the off that Cambuslang were taking no prisoners, but Cumnock met their challenge toe to toe. Cambuslang displayed a strong defence making it difficult for Cumnock to break through. However, with some good teamwork and support Cumnock were able to secure two tries in the first half keeping the score tight with Cambuslang 3, Cumnock 2. Our team talk at half time focused on making tackles and securing possession. During the second half it was clear the boys had listened and were working hard. However, Cambuslang raised their game even further scoring some excellent tries winning the game 7-3.

The final game Cumnock vs Hamilton and was another fantastic game of rugby. Cumnock had learnt from the first game and tightened up their defence. Tackles were coming thick and fast and loose balls were being pounced upon allowing few tries for Hamilton. On attack Cumnock’s jinky runners had woken up and were sprinting up the field, weaving through Hamilton players and scoring tries a plenty. At half time Cumnock were stretching ahead with Cumnock 5, Hamilton 2. At half time there were pats on the backs and the boys were told to go back out and do more of the same; and that they did. The boys continued to tackle with heart a plenty and stepped up the pressure on Hamilton. Then with more good runs and great teamwork the boys continued to rack up the tries finishing with an overall score of Cumnock 12, Hamilton 5.
