CUMNOCK P6 MARR TOURNAMENT

The Cumnock P6 squad travelled to Troon for the annual Marr tournament this year with GHK in attendance along with regular touring guests Kelso. It always throws up some great games and this year never failed either. With a healthy squad the kids enthusiastically helped Kelso the boys swapping through each of the games and was great to integrate with the Kelso kids. Cumnock’s first game was Marr Gold and really was a great game to watch. Cumnock were running the Marr defence ragged and some great pieces of play resulted in some lovely tries. Cumnock have been working really hard to keep the ball alive and this certainly was the case in the first game the final result Marr 4 – Cumnock 5 with Glen, Lewis and Alfie on the scoresheet. Next up was GHK and normally always a close game between the two teams. Cumnock were pretty slow to start this game and a few lapses in defence with slack tackling lost a few tries but the Cumnock kids managed a fightback which was all too late and the final result ending GHK 3 – Cumnock 2 this time Cameron and Sam scoring. There were some good pieces of play during the game but several times the kids wasted a two or three man overlap not scanning and taking the ball back into the crowd of players but all in a good performance. Next up was the touring team Kelso a good team with a great support and with a loan of a few Cumnock players was brilliant to watch. Cumnock took an early lead and went a few tries clear, Katy putting a much improved performance from the previous game and really causing Kelso problems and in the end a fair result of Kelso 4 – Cumnock 4 was a great outcome to a great match. Last up was Marr Purple probably the best attacking team at our age grade and with the kids told to go out and enjoy it they were on the receiving end of a walloping something which our kids never really experience. The defence was pulled all over and the line opening up massive gaps allowing Marr to burst through with pace. Another valuable lesson and plenty of areas to work on in training one of the things throughout the day was the lack of rucking something which is normally our strong point, but all in a great day.

Team – Sam Allan, Harry Linden, Seth McKenzie, Blair Bell, Glen Patterson, Lewis O’Kane, Kian Clelland, Katy Hart, Ben Welsh, Ali Wallace, Alfie Linden, Aidan Murphy, Kerr Gibson, Brooklyn Phillips, Cameron Roxburghe, Stuart Sharpe.
