P6 win away to East Kilbride

CUMNOCK P6

Cumnock P6 Black – 5 East Kilbride P6 - 3

It was a lovely sunny morning and after several cancellations due to the weather it was great to get back out and get the kids playing rugby. It was great to have such healthy numbers for an away game meaning we could split the teams into two and first up was the black squad. The defence was very good and every time EK tried to make a break there was a tackle but the most impressive was the rucking. There were several overturned balls letting Cumnock go on the attack and the pace of Lewis was proving too much for the opposition. Cumnock were relentless and every time there was a tackle they presented the ball well and there was always someone supporting to clear out and then someone to protect the ball. Stuart was making loads of tackles in the middle, Cameron was getting stuck into the rucks and we really saw some improvement there. Seth stole several balls in the ruck allowing Harry, Katy and Glen to go on their strong runs but the most impressive player on the park was Brooklyn with his text book tackles. A great team performance from the Cumnock kids.

Cumnock P6 Red – 3 East Kilbride P6 – 2

Next up was the red squad and again the kids were all raring to go. Cumnock started well again and once more the rucking was really impressive this time Alfie shining bright clearing out the rucks allowing the rest to get in and protect the ball. At times there was maybe too much bunching the kids all too eager to get on the ball but it seemed to work in their favour as they kept the ball and ruck after ruck made their way up the park. Some great strong runs from Sam and Blair Lorimer allowed Cumnock to score some great tries especially off some of the fancy footwork from Aidan who has a great side step. Blair Bell was great at organising the defence talking to his players throughout and the defence was working really well together, Ben working hard in defence and attack and Ali covering the wide channels with some good rucks as well. Another great team performance from the Cumnock kids.
It was a very pleasing morning for the coaches, some of the defence and attack was the best that had been seen all season and a great finish going into a couple of weeks rest over the Easter holidays.

Team – Lewis O’Kane, Katy Hart, Glen Paterson, Aidan Murphy, Harry Linden, Blair Bell, Stuart Sharpe, Ali Wallace, Ben Welsh, Sam Allan, Blair Lorimer, Cameron Roxburghe, Alfie Linden, Seth McKenzie, Brooklyn Phillips
