The opening encounters were evenly matched and both teams created chances, however some poor handling brought a halt to each promising move. Inevitably though it was the visitors that scored with the Number 8 dancing through some poor covering tackles to score. This was quickly followed by another tries before the home team responded with a try by the ever alert Gregor Paxton, with fly half David Smith adding the two points.
The Cougars were brighter in the second half but again it was the visitors that scored first. However another try from Paxton with support from winger Taylor Howie narrowed the gap. The forwards started to make some hard yards, particularly Andrew Harkiss and Neil Kerr and the backs were strating to see more of the ball. Gregor Aitken started a move down the left wing then the ball was moved quickly across to Howie on the right who was stopped short of the line. He popped the ball to Callan Gordon in support who then passed to Harkiss who although tackled by two Ardrossan players managed to stretch and place the ball on the line. This was the best play of the day from the hme team and showed what they are capable off. Ardrossan answered with a well worked try of their own with the centre cutting a lovely angle to score below the posts. Ardrossan then finished off the game with a further score to put the game beyond doubt.
There is much work to be done with this team, particularly in the contact areas. There will be further training before next weeks away game to Marr.
