Home team lifts the cup at Cumnock Tournament

With more that 50 years of rugby being played on Broomfield, Sunday saw the last competitive 15-a-side game to be played before work on the proposed educational campus begins. It was perhaps fitting that a Cumnock team lifted the last trophy.

This U15 side has been on a steep learning curve this season and from fairly humble beginnings has built into a very competitive side. This wasn't even the strongest side that the club could field with two members attending a regional pathway event in Glasgow however they were able to turn in very strong displays against clubs that have considerably greater resources. First up was East Kilbride who were no match for the hosts. From the off it was Cumnock who were on the front foot with some very cavalier fast rugby that the opponents could not deal with. Scores rained in and by the final whistle it was an emphatic victory with scores came from Arun Copper, Luke Cooper, Jamie Drummond, Kevin Vander Leest with Kerr Robson, Andy Houston. The last game pitted Cumnock against Whitecraigs where the home side kind of lost their way a little and found scores harder to come by however a quick half time chat saw normal service being resumed and scores aplenty taking Cumnock to the silverware.

All in it was a terrific day and Coach Bowditch commented " we are really happy with where we have got to with this team as the outlook was really challenging at the start of the season. We have a number of players that now understand the level of commitment that we need to challenge in games and they have responded and they should be congratulated. Over the summer if we can get the remainder of the team on board and secure a collective mindset of hard work then next season is going to very exciting."

U15 Coach and Club Development Officer Harry Reilly added. This team is starting to get it, they are starting to understand some of the key values of rugby and in particular the contribution that hard work will make to the success of the team. We will now have a slow down in our rugby training for a little while but work will continue in the gym in preparation of that start of pre-season in about a months time. Personally I am really looking forward to next season to see what we can achieve"

The U15 team are always looking for new team members if you are keen then please call the club for more information 01290 420292
