Biggar 14 Cumnock 26
On Sunday Cumnock 15s made their first ever trip to Biggar. Finding a gap in the stormy weather the game was played in near perfect conditions on a good park. Biggar proved to be stuffy opposition with a strong pack and elusive backs. Against the run of play Cumnock scored first thanks to a score from Dylan Chidwick. This was quickly replied to by Biggar as they made their early territorial pressure tell. Cumnock scored twice more in the first half through captain Wallace Findlay and Dylan Naismith.
In the second half Biggar scored a great long range effort to take the score to 19-14. Cumnock however had the last say with a typical bullocking run from ever dependable Jamie Drummond. 3 conversions were added through the game by Owen Young.
Coach Alan Montgomerie said after the game, “ I am quite satisfied with the result and the performance. We had a large number of personnel and positional changes which affected our shape. However the boys dug in well and did enough to win the game. Special mention today to Robbie Stewart from Sanquhar who gave a passable impression of Jonny Gray as he took on drive after drive.”
Next week it is Cumnock’s under 15 tournament with teams from Marr, Dalziel/Strathaven and Whitecraigs all looking to come out on top. Games start at 1pm and it would be great to see some support down to encourage the boys.
