Livingston under 15s 7 Cumnock 60

Despite the wet and then freezing weather of the previous week the conditions and the park were perfect.

Despite the score an injury ravaged Livingston outfit made a good game of it with much more territory and pressure than the score suggests.

Cumnock got off to a good start when Jock Welsh playing one of his first games for the club at number 8, picked up and dodged and slid through 4 defenders to score under the post. Owen Young showed dead eye skills to slot the first of 8 conversions. Welsh then went on to amazingly score a hat trick of tries in the first 15 minutes to take the score to 19 to 0.

Cumnock showed much better distribution skills on the day and moved the ball about constantly. This led to many chances throughout the match. Tries fell to Jamie Drummond, Adam Watt, Owen Young, Keven Ven Der Leest, Wallace Findlay, Zak McMurdo and remarkably a 4th to Welsh. The pick of these tries was scored by McMurdo after he blasted through 4 tackles before scoring under the posts. He then converted his own try.

Great work at the kick offs was carried out by Declan Granger Matt Montgomery whilst new player Robbie Stewart, Rob Drummond and Dylan Chidwick had numerous rampaging runs. Stand-off Andy Houston kept the line working well and scrum half Adam “Killa” Watt had some terrific line breaks.

Coach Mark Van Der Leest said, “ I was pleased with how the boys played today. We had some challenges getting everyone on the park with 8 subs but all the players contributed well. We have a big game next week so we need as many players at training as possible and everyone on Thursday.”

Next week Cumnock are away to East Kilbride with a likely departure time of 12:00 from the club, coaches will text out to confirm.
