Report by Andrew Watt
Cumnock almost got off to the worst possible start when hard tackling from Ayr forced an early turnover and only a last ditch tackle prevented Ayr from getting the first points on the board. This early shock seemed to galvanise the Cumnock boys into playing the type of rugby which is fast becoming their trademark style. Hard tackling , strong running and offloading soon saw Cumnock racking up the points and by half time Cumnock had a convincing 31 - 0 lead.
The Ayr coaches must have had some stern words for their team at half time as Ayr put in a stronger performance in the second half. The second period was a much tighter affair and ended with both teams scoring 12 points , fortunately Cumnock`s dominant performance in the first period was enough to secure a 43 - 12 win for the host`s in what was a thrilling encounter for the spectators.
