On the back of a three game unbeaten run the Cougars were looking to avenge the previous defeat.
Right from the kick off Cumnock took the game to their opponents and it wasn’t long before they scored the first of five first half tries as they overpowered Carrick. The coaches were especially pleased with the boys support play, very rarely did any break leave a player isolated. The blustery conditions made any conversion attempts tricky which resulted in the half time score 31-7.
The second half mirrored the first with the difference in the teams probably down to the tackling and cover, with Cumnock never giving the opposition any space to play, hitting them early with very few missed tackles. Cumnock finished the game 51 to 14 point winners to qualify for next week’s final.
The coaches were really pleased with the performance of the team and the continuing improvement throughout, the introduction of a few more experienced boys has steadied the team and seems to be bringing more out of the newer players. The tries were shared by eight different scorers and even more pleasing for the coaches it was 4 each from the forwards and the backs. The boys should be pleased with their efforts and will look forward to next week’s final.
