In the first game of the new year Cumnock u15s travelled up to Lenzie to play a joint Allan Glens/Lenzie team that have been regularly hitting the 60 point mark in their previous games.
With many new faces this year Cumnock are trying to ease the new boys into games and steadily improve each week with players getting to understand their positions and teammates. However this was going to be a tough ask, given the opposition and the heavy conditions all of which restricted the passing running game that Cumnock favour.
Cumnock lost an early try when all were sleeping at a short lineout and the coaches feared the worst but even though they were put under a huge amount of pressure in the first half they defended heroically and held out until late in the half before conceding another two before half time.
In the second half Cumnock played much better but just couldn’t get the final pass or break though to get the elusive first score that may have triggered more. The majority of this half was played in the home teams half but Cumnock just couldn’t finish of any moves much to their frustration. Eventually AG/Lenzie scored another 3 tries in the second half, all from distance as Cumnock pressed up the field.
The coaches were happy with the boys showing especially their tackling and defence against a bigger well organised team who never gave Cumnock the space to play their own game. As ever there were more positives than negatives taken from the game and game time is the only way the team will improve.
