The game started just after one of three blizzards with Cumnock on the offensive straight from the kickoff. Good hands in the poor conditions and securing the ball in the rucks gave Cumnock the edge, the Cougars forwards are starting to get their game together giving the team the platform to build plays on and allowing the back to use their pace. All the above were evident in the first half which finished 28 - 0 to Cumnock.
While much of the first half was played in the sunshine, conditions deteriorated in the second making handling and passing much more difficult leading to a scrappy second half with many scrums. Clydebank/Bishopton saw more of the ball in the second half and opted to kick for territory on most occasions but Cumnock held firm and a lot of cool heads (for a change) dealt with all that was thrown at them. C/B eventually scored from close range in between 2 more Cumnock tries, both run in from deep, highlighting the pace in the team. All but one of the six tries were converted.
It was a good win for Cumnock racking up valuable game time as half the team have still only played as little as six games. The scrum is improving as well as the support play but the forwards need to quicken up on decisions and their positions at the break downs. The backs at times need to shorten their game to ensure possession, all of which will hopefully come with more games and experience.
The coaches asked for more concentration throughout the whole game and they got about 90% of that but considering the conditions all the coaches were please with the result in a game that was played in good spirit.
