It was a new look Cumnock under 15 team that travelled to Uddingston for their first league game of the season after a few week of hard training to introduce a handful of new players to the team.
With three players making their rugby playing debuts the coaches didn’t really know what to expect but they shouldn’t have worried as the boys showed great enthusiasm and their play displayed all the hard work in training had been worthwhile.
The game itself was played on a heavy pitch and the score does not reflect on how close the game was, Uddy won the try count 5 – 3 with Cumnock denied what look like a perfectly good score which would have tied the game at that time.
Cumnock forwards completed well throughout the game and the pace in the backs is increasing all the time, it may take a few games for the boys to get to know what each other can do but the coaches were pleased with this first outing and are looking for a continued improvement with each game.
The coaches explained to the boys before the game, the result of this first game was not important and was more to do with how they played as a team and the coaches were delighted with the response of the boys and their attitude and look forward to moving on with the team.
