Dumfries 19 Cumnock /Kilmarnock 12

The Cougars travelled down to Dumfries looking for their first win of the season and were unlucky to narrowly miss out on achieving it. Dumfries started strongly and eventually drove over, despite a stout defence by the Cougars, for the first try after pressing the Cougars back from the start of the game. The Cougars came back into the game but struggled to break the first tackle to make the break though, Dumfries scored again to lead 12 – 0 at the break.

After the restart the Cougars started to chip away at Dumfries and began to break the game line tackles and managed to score early in the second half, unfortunately some slack play allow Dumfries to reply straight away. However, the Cougars were coming more and more into the game and scored again to set up a tense end to the game but unfortunately they ran out of time.

Although they competed well throughout the game the boys lost their focus when decisions went against them and they need to learn to turn these things into positives and move on rather than dwell on them. Support play was also slack but this will come the more the boys play together. Overall the coaches were happy with the Cougars effort but a bit more hunger is required and the improvement will come.
