Cumnock/Kilmarnock Cougars 7 Ayr 69

The Cougars first game in the cup was against a formidable Ayr team and their fears were realised with a heavy defeat. The game started fairly evenly but Ayr soon got into their game with relentless running, good rucking and good supporting play that the Cougars had no answer for.
The Cougars put in a great deal of effort but couldn’t shake off their opponents who quickly closed them down whenever they tried to attack. Some slack tackling and poor covering on the try line allowed some easy scores but the boys kept going to the end and their second half showing was an improvement on the first, with a good try that stretched Ayr.
Towards the end the game the Cougars were trying to force a break though rather than keep things simple and wait for the breaks and that allowed Ayr back on the ball.
This is only the teams second game together and things will improve the more games they get together. The coaches were impressed by the boys attitude and discipline throughout the game and are sure this will pay off in the weeks to come.
