The home side started slowly as they worked out their new positions but were soon playing confidently against a more established Hamilton side.
Ten minutes in the home side were on the defensive as Hamilton took the ball within inches of the Cumnock line. Superb defence and rucking won the ball back allowing a clearing kick to put Cumnock back on the attack.
Quick ball and slick passing produced a try putting Cumnock ahead ten minutes into the game.
Both sides made good breaks and defended well but a gap in defence allowed Hamilton to run in a try to even up the score for the first half.
The second half started with a more confident team making breaks to the line frequently but another try from Hamilton put the visitors ahead with five minutes to go.
A determined comeback saw Cumnock score again to end the game in a draw.
This was a very positive start to the new season and is a credit to the hard work at training the team has put in.
