Report by Morton Houston
In almost perfect conditions both teams got stuck in and served up a very close game. Cumnock troubled the score board first with a try from Ross Marr following a flowing move from half way. They followed this up with a sweeping move finished off in steam roller fashion by Jamie Drummond. Strathaven upped their game however and answered back with 3 tries of their own the last of which was scored on full time.
The game contained many good performances. The covering tackles of Andy Houston, Evan Smith, Owen Young and Rob Drummond were to the fore whilst Lucas McMillan and Wallace Findlay had some rampaging runs. On the whole however Cumnock’s handling was not quite up to scratch and there were a number of missed tackles which cost the team dear.
Coach Billy Ramsay said after the game, “The boys played well at times but we never seemed to get into a rhythm due to poor passing and dropped balls. When we did managed to spread the ball we looked very dangerous.”
Next week both S1 and S2 visit Birkmyre in Kilmacolm for the first time. Details will be available from coaches when arranged.
